Acclaimed Authors

We are a book club that tackles the slightly more meaty books, those that most book clubs don’t want to take on.  We agonised about the name of the group, but stuck with the original.

We have read The Moon is Down by John Steinbeck, Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell, Ulysses by James Joyce as a sample and other authors in the mix so far are Somerset Maughan, Boris Pasternack and George Orwell.  We choose the books as democratically as possible and if the books are available in the library we will borrow them, otherwise we buy our own, using online second-hand book sellers as much as possible.

There is a 50p charge to cover costs, and when the library is used, the cost is shared across the group.
