Anglo Saxon English 2
Anyone interested in helping to form a second stream of our currently successful Anglo-Saxon Language & Literature Group (based in Minehead, now advanced) as a beginners’ Group based in the Village Hall in Porlock (free visitor-only parking, low hire fee!) or in Minehead?
Anglo- Saxon English (“Old English”) is a key part of our linguistic and literary heritage. Sadly, only some 5,000 of its words are still with us: but this includes very many of our everyday words and the hundred most commonly used - and almost all English place-names. Come and have a go at beginning to read, understand and pronounce the words of some of the key texts of this beautiful language - working together on selections of its prose and poetry. (And the Lord’s Prayer!) (Background history & language handouts sent on request).
